By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, NOV. 26. The City police have arrested four members of a gang of extortionists, robbers, and kidnappers, and recovered cash and stolen jewellery worth Rs. 17.5 lakhs from them.

They were members of the dreaded Nasru gang which was involved in cases of kidnapping and molestation of ``live band'' artistes.

The arrested are Jameel, Mustaff alias Kalim (both 24, and residents of Hosur Road Cross, Mangamanapalya, Bommanahalli), Mohamad Iqbal alias Iqbal (23) from Tirumakot, Hosur taluk, Dharmapuri District, and Mohamad Shafi alias Shafi (25) from Dharmapuri.

While Jameel and Mustaff were apprehended at their hideouts in Hyderabad, Iqbal was arrested in Bangalore, and Shafi in Dharmapuri.

The accused were involved in 53 cases of extortion, dacoity, kidnapping, theft, and robbery in Bangalore City, Kolar District, and other places.

Since 1998, they amassed Rs. 15 lakhs through their criminal acts, and spent the money on maintaining a lavish lifestyle. With their arrest, eight cases registered in the Banashankari police station, five in Ashok Nagar, four in Tilaknagar, three in Subramanyapura, two cases each in Basavanagudi, Adugodi, J.P. Nagar, Indiranagar, Seshadripuram, Hanumanthnagar, and Jayanagar, and one case each in Koramangala, Gangamanagudi, Hebbal, Madivala, MICO Layout, Kumaraswamy Layout, Cubbon Park, Srirampuram, Kalasipalyam, Frazer Town, HAL, Girinagar, Viveknagar, S.R. Nagar, Market, Upparpet, Hoskote, and Kolar Town police stations have been solved. The stolen jewellery recovered from the accused included gold and diamond necklaces.

The Police Commissioner, Mr. H.T. Sangliana has announced a reward for the members of the team which apprehended the gangsters.

Their arrest has helped police solve the robbery case in which the former MP and former Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, Mr. P. Kodandaramaiah, was the victim.

Mr. Kodandaramaiah was robbed of his cell phone when he was travelling by car on Bannerghatta Road, and a case was registered in the Adugodi police station.
