20 killed in J&K encounter
JAMMU, NOV. 27. Militants of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba
today ambushed an Army patrol triggering a fierce gunbattle which
killed 12 security personnel, including a Major, and eight ultras
in the mountains of Surankote in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch
district.
As a patrol party, on a search operation, of troops approached
the militants' hideout, it was ambushed. The troops hit back
setting off a fierce encounter that killed 10 jawans, a Major, a
Junior Commissioned Officer and eight militants. Six persons were
wounded, four of them seriously, in the encounter.
Additional troops have been rushed to the area to assist their
colleagues in the battle against the militants which was on till
last reports came in.
