Badungar is SGPC chief

AMRITSAR, NOV. 27. Mr. Kirpal Singh Badungar, Officer on Special Duty to the Punjab Chief Minister and Akali Dal chief, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, was today elected president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), the highest decision making body of the Sikhs.

In a straight contest, Mr. Badungar defeated the Akali Dal (Mann) general secretary, Mr. Sukhdev Singh Bhaur. Mr. Badungar polled 112 votes against Mr. Bhaur's 56.
