Indian team asks Dhaka to export gas
DHAKA, NOV. 27. A delegation of Indian businessmen has asked
Bangladesh to quickly start exporting gas to India to bridge the
trade gap between the two countries and said that if Dhaka does
not do so, New Delhi will buy it from Myanmar.
The president of the visiting 10-member delegation from the
Kolkata-based Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
Mr. Niranjan Saha, said that if Bangladesh did not agree to
export gas to India, New Delhi will buy it from Myanmar and in
that case Bangladesh's gas market will incur a loss, vernacular
daily Matribhumee reported.
Instead of looking at the issue from political angle, it should
be viewed in the light of economy as the export of gas to India
would bridge the trade gap the Indian delegation said.
