CM calls for action plan to eliminate poverty

HYDERABAD, NOV. 27. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu,
has asked officials to prepare a time-bound action plan for
eradication of poverty, involving technologies offered by Swami
Ramananda Tirtha Rural Institute and programmes envisaged in
schemes like ``Velugu,'' Self-Help Groups and Small Scale
Industries.
He was reviewing the activities of the Poverty Eradication
Mission, here on Tuesday, according to an official press release.
A presentation was made by Dr. Ashok Khosla of ``Tara haat'' and
a member of the Mission on development alternatives.
Dr. Khosla said Andhra Pradesh was an ideal place for development
as Information Technology initiatives like APSWAN,
Datawarehousing, Satellite Education, e-Seva, land records, Rytu
bazar were available. There were rural initiatives like
Janmabhoomi, Velugu, Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty,
Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas, Multipurpose
House Hold Survey and poverty eradication.
He said his organisation Tara Haat had experience of two decades
in rural marketing with focus on commercial viability, in use of
state-of-the-art technology and support systems and nationwide
network. A study had been taken up in Mahbubnagar and Chittoor,
he added.
The Minister for Employment Generation and IT-enabled services
Mr. B. Gopala Krishna Reddy, Mr. S. Ray, Principal Secretary,
Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Prof. Navaneeth Rao,
Chairman, Swami Ramananda Tirtha Institute and other senior
officials attended.
