Maoists killed

KATHMANDU, NOV. 28. Maoist rebels today attacked military barracks and clashed with security forces as the army stepped up operations against the guerrillas killing over 60 of them, official sources said here.

Thirteen rebels were killed and five arrested following a fierce gunbattle with the army in Salyan district, 400 km west of here, a Defence Ministry release said.

Meanwhile, the summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be held as scheduled in Kathmandu in early January despite the resurgence of Maoist violence in Nepal, officials said today.
