6 Tehri dam panels closed

DEHRADUN, DEC. 2. Amid tight security, three panels each of two diversion tunnels of the controversial 2400 MW Tehri hydel project were closed today.

The panels of T-3 and T-4 tunnels of the dam were closed in the presence of the District Magistrate, Mr. Radha Raturi, and top officials of the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC), the nodal agency for the construction.

The move was hitherto being opposed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the environmentalist, Mr. Sunderlal Bahuguna.
