Harrisons Malayalam gets FICCI award

NEW DELHI DEC. 5. The Union Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, gave away the prestigious FICCI Awards for 2000-01 in recognition of corporate initiative in the fields of family welfare, research in science and technology, rural development, training and placement of persons with disability, life sciences including agriculture, physical sciences including mathematics and engineering and technology. The awards were given away at the 74th annual session of the FICCI here today.

Harrisons Malayalam, Kochi, has received the family welfare award for significant contribution in the area of labour welfare. The company adopted an integrated approach and provided full infrastructural support to family welfare programmes.

The award in the field of institutional initiative in research in science and technology has been bagged by University Department of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, for its pioneering work in chemical engineering and chemical technology.

The rural development award has been given jointly to ANaRDE Foundation, Mumbai, with Hindalco Jan Seva Trust, Renukoot. ANaRDE Foundation got this award for its outstanding work in the area of rural development since 1979.

ITI, Rai Bareli, has received the award for training and placement of persons with disability. One of the highlights of this institution has been the placement of handicapped people and their gainful employment.

The cash award in recognition of individual initiative in life sciences, including agriculture has been given to Dr. V. Prakash, director, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. Dr. Raghunath Vitthal Chaudhary, Head, Homogeneous Catalysis Division, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, and Dr. Narayanasami Sathyamurthy, Kanpur, have shared the cash award in recognition of individual initiative in physical sciences including mathematics. Prof. Sankar Kumar Pal, Kolkata, has bagged the engineering and technology award.
