Naxal rampage on, MR office blasted
By Our Staff Reporter
ADILABAD, DEC.5. The banned People's War Group naxalites continued to go on the rampage in the State by blasting the Sirpur (U) Mandal Revenue Office in the early hours of Wednesday and made an unsuccessful attempt to attack Regunta police station in Ahiri sub-division of Gadchiroli district of neighbouring Maharashtra, bordering Adilabad district.
Alert police personnel manning the Regunta police station across Pranahita, seven km from Neelavai police station of Andhra Pradesh, repulsed an attack by the PWG naxalites suspected to be PGA members of Adilabad district.
The mandal office blasting comes close on the heels of a similar blasting of newly constructed court buildings at the revenue divisional headquarters of Asifabad last week.
The Adilabad SP, Mr. Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, said that 10 armed naxalites, said to belong to the Mangi squad, raided the Mandal Revenue Office at Sirpur (U). The naxals planted explosives in the office building and triggered them causing extensive damage to the office furniture and records.
Computers valued at Rs. 4 lakhs were completely damaged. The loss of property was estimated at Rs. 15 lakhs.
The Adilabad district administration, on the advice of the district police, has asked the office staff in at least 10 Mandal Revenue Offices to shift the records and computers to safer places till the week-long martyrs' week concludes.
According to reports from Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, naxalites made an abortive bid to attack the Regunta police station.
The Regunta police first heard gun shots around 9.30 p.m last night and returned the fire. The naxals again fired at the police station building after an hour.
TDP leader's house blasted
According to a Warangal report, naxalites blasted the house of an MPTC member of TDP at Giddemutharam village of Chitial mandal late on Tuesday night.
Three members of Area Rakshaka dalam of PWG, clad in olive green uniforms, were said to be involved in the act. They broke the lock on the door of the house when the MPTC member, Mr. Voram Sammaiah, and his family members were away in Hyderabad, to gain entry inside and plant the gelatin sticks.
The tiled three-room house of Mr. Sammaiah came crashing down in the explosion that followed.
In a chit left at the spot, the naxalites cited repression unleashed by TDP and BJP Governments against revolutionary parties as the reason for the blasting.
At Pujariguda in Komarada mandal of Vizianagaram district naxalites blasted a building of a Chennai-based orchard company. There were no casualties.
The Additional Superintendent of Police, Mr. V. Siva Kumar, said that 10 to 15 naxalites called out the watchman and triggered the blast. The building reportedly developed cracks.
