Union Minister reviews PDS

CHENNAI, DEC. 5. Identification of beneficiaries under the Antodaya Anna Yojana scheme in Tamil Nadu is at an advanced stage and will be completed by month-end, the officials said on Tuesday at a review meeting on the targeted public distribution system organised by the Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution, Mr. Ashok Pradhan.

The State Food Minister, Mr. P. Dhanapal, who participated in the meeting said about 7.45 lakh beneficiaries had been identified under the scheme of which about 5 lakhs were in the rural areas.

At the meeting, the Minister requested the Centre for allotment of wheat at the APL rate from the Central pool. The Union Minister agreed to consider the request, said a release.
