PG course in Bioinformatics
THE INSTITUTE of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), an institution started by the State Government and ICICI Ventures, is offering a postgraduate course in Bioinformatics on its International Tech Park campus.
The course is open to graduates in science or technology (B.Sc., B.Tech, MBBS, BCA, and such courses). Classes will begin in February 2002. Application forms can be obtained by submitting a DD for Rs. 250 in the name of the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology. College opens centres
Metropolitan College for Management Studies (MCMS), which offers job-oriented and management courses, has opened its centres at Jayanagar and Rajajinagar in Bangalore.
MCMS offers advanced diploma courses in Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Catering Technology, Marketing and Finance Management, and Human Resources Management. The syllabus and teaching methodology of the courses is developed in association with London College of Management (LMC), Schiller International University (SIU), and MTC of Malaysia.

Admission to RIMC
The next entrance examination for admission to the eighth standard in Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, for the August 2002 term will be conducted in Bangalore on February 3 and 4.
Boys from Karnataka, who have attained the age of 13 years as on July 1, 2002, are eligible to apply. They should either be studying in class VII or passed class VII from any recognised school.
The written part of the examination will consist of three papers -- English, Mathematics and General Knowledge. The Mathematics paper may be answered either in Hindi or in English and the General Knowledge paper in Hindi or English or in a regional language. Besides the written papers, the intelligence and personality of the candidate will be tested in an interview.

Meet on biotech.
St. Joseph's College of Business Administration, Bangalore, in collaboration with Enterprising Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Related Industry Professionals from the Indian Subcontinent (EPPIC), Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Sciences (IBAB), and Vi Labs Information System Pvt. Ltd. are organising a conference on biotechnology on December 8.
Among the themes lined up for the conference are Introduction to the business of biology, Biology in agricultural business, Consultancy/Venture capital interest, Creation of intellectual capital for competitive advantage, Entrepreneurship and technology for Biology and research.
Ferment 2001
MICROCOSM, the Microbiology Association of St. Joseph's College, has organised inter-collegiate competitions under the banner of "Ferment 2001" on December 7 and 8. The event will feature quiz, lecture, essay, and poster making contests. Also on the agenda are pictionary, song spoof, crossword, face painting, cartooning, pick n speak and air crash.
