Govt. agrees to reclassify temples
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, DEC. 5. The Government has promised a delegation of archakas to take the initiative for reclassification of temples in the State, taking inflation into consideration.
The assurance came from the Endowments Commissioner, Mr Ajeya Kallam, during discussions he had with the leaders of archakas led by Prof M. V. Soundara Rajan, vice-president, Andhra Pradesh Archaka Samakhya.
According to a press release issued later by the Samakhya general secretary, Mr A. Atreya Babu, the Commissioner gave a commitment to activate the Archaka Welfare Fund by January 15. Among the other benefits that the archaka delegation could get from the Commission was deferment of the decision to adopt the Chilkur Venkateswara temple, promise of pension, retention of retirement age at 65 years, assurance not to disturb lands under the possession of archakas attached to 6 (C) temples, and withholding of contributions to be made by these archakas towards administrative costs.
The Samakhya said it had deferred its agitation up to January 15 in the light of the assurance.
