IAF air show to mark Tourism day fete

HYDERABAD, DEC. 5. The Minister of Tourism, Mr. T. Srinivas Yadav, on Wednesday urged people to attend in large numbers on December 8 to witness a breathtaking air display by pilots of the Indian Air Force to mark the A.P. Tourism Day.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the idea was initiated by the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu and was being organised by the Department of Tourism. He said it would be a never-before-occasion.

The Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the IAF's Training Command, Air Marshal T. J. Master, said the civil aviation authorities would seal-off the airspace over Hyderabad, so that helicopters, transport and fighter planes could safely participate in the air display.

The Tourism Secretary, Mrs. Chandana Khan, and the Director-Tourism, Mr. G. Kishan Rao, said it would be an occasion for the general public to watch acrobatics which required a high degree of skill. The DCP Traffic, Mr. M. V. Dinakar Prasad, said the entire area around Hussainsagar -- Necklace Road, NTR Marg and Tank Bund road, would be closed for general traffic. He said detailed diversion plans would be announced on Thursday.

The MCH Additional Commissioner, Mr. Omar Jaleel, said sanitation teams would take special care and work overtime over the next three days to keep the area around the lake free of garbage so that the aircraft and pilots would not run the risk of bird hits. He appealed to the people to cooperate in this regard.

The APSRTC Regional Manager, Mr. Ch. Rameshwar, said the Corporation had enough buses in the City to transport people to the venue of the air display at the People's Plaza on the Necklace Road. Buses could also be chartered by groups,he said.

Among others present were senior Air Staff Officer-Training Command, Air Marshal B. K. Pandey, Commandant of the College of Air Warfare, Air Vice-Marshal D. E. Jonas and the Commandant of the Air force Begumpet, Group Captain C. R. Prasad.
