YSR seeks white paper on employment status

HYDERABAD, DEC. 5. The leader of Opposition, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has urged the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, to publish a white paper on the unemployment problem in the State, giving district-wise details of the unemployed with a break-up of skilled and unskilled categories.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, he also sought action on filling all the existing vacancies estimated to be around 1.75 lakh in Government departments and State-level public enterprises.
The other demands listed by him to tackle the alarming unemployment problem include recruitment to the 4,500 posts under Group-II category and the existing SC and ST backlog vacancies, implementation of the directions of the A.P. Administrative Tribunal without preferring appeals in the high court or the Supreme Court, abolition of contract system and withdrawal of the proposal to abolish 17,000 Government jobs in various departments.
Dr. Reddy said there were an estimated one crore educated unemployed in the State, of whom 35 lakhs were on the rolls of employment exchanges.
