KPCC should protect members: Cong. MLA
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 5. The Congress MLA, Mr. K. K. Ramachandran Master, said here today that the onus was on the KPCC leadership to protect party members who express their opinion in party forums from the "blackmail tactics" adopted by community leaders such as Mr. Vellappally Natesan.
He said in an informal chat with reporters that party leaders got the opportunity to express their opinions freely in party forums like the KPCC executive and at such meetings, the opinions are registered on issue basis, without any grudge or favour.
Some of the leaders spoke against introduction of bar licensing system for toddy shops not on the basis of caste consideration.
He said that Kerala had been witness to several progressive legislations and policy initiatives and has been a model to other States. These include land reforms to the arrack ban. No one had ever stated that these steps were against any community.
He said that the LDF had to pay a heavy price because of its liquor policy which permitted the flow of illicit liquor. The strong opinions against the licensing system was an attempt to prevent the party and the Government from committing the LDF's mistake.
He alleged that some people were trying to maim communal amity in the State in pursuance of their vested interest. People like Mr. Vellappally Natesan should ensure that the community is not made a party to this.
He accused Mr. Natesan of dragging the name of the community into a controversy, while neglecting the hoary traditions of the Sree Narayana movement and the gospel of the great social reformer.
The resignation of the S.N. Trust president, Mr. Unneerikutty, is a proof enough that the toddy issue was not related to the community.
