Talk of the Town
- THE ANXIOUSLY- awaited judgment had, at last, come. When the AIADMK partymen knew that the verdict was in favour of their leader, they went to town. Distribution of sweets, bursting of crackers and what not. They did not stop with that.
It was also time for them to thank God. After all, did not their leader say that she was acquitted in all the cases because of God's grace?
As a mark of his party's gratitude, the Chief Minister, Mr. O. Paneerselvam, paid obeisance at the Anjaneya temple in the southern suburb, Nanganallur and followed it up with a visit to Lord Vinayaka at Pillaiyar temple in Government Estate.

- THE JUDGMENT Day (on Tuesday) began with great tension for the AIADMK party faithful. Until Mr. Justice N. Dinakar in the Madras High Court pronounced the verdict. That day saw perhaps the largest congregation in recent memory of advocates and party workers and leaders. The crowd was so huge by 10 a.m that Mr. Jothi, counsel for Ms. Jayalalithaa, had to enter the hall by a door normally used only by the Judges.
Incidentally, one could see among the packed audience, some old faithfuls. A known face like the former Health Minister Mr. S. Muthusamy and another old colleague of his Mr. D. Anandan. Now that `happy days are here again for the partymen', will it be a turnaround of fortunes for the old veterans... one wonders!

- WHEN THE Ashram group of colleges and schools, sent out an invitation for the school's annual day celebrations, they also mentioned that director K. Balachander and comedienne Manorama would receive `Bhishma' awards.
And that got all the tongues a-wagging. Will Superstar Rajinikant be there? After all, everybody knows that his wife Latha is the prime mover behind the Ashram group. All those who wagered that the cine star would make one of those rare public appearances had a win on their hands.
The star turned up at Kamaraj Arangam promptly, and what is more, did not make a fast exit. Seated beside legendary director Balachander, Rajini is said to have watched the cultural performance put up by the students of the Ashram group. Remember, at the Parthale Paravasam launch, Rajini had already called Balachander the `pitamaha' of the industry. He just followed it up by conferring the `Bhishma' award on the veteran director on December 3. Others to get the award included Manorama, as mentioned earlier, Sri Ganapathy Stapathy and Sri Krishnamoorthy Sastrigal.
