Drinking coffee, a part of lifestyle

COFFEE? YES. More coffee in Chennai. Believe it or not, this land of filter coffee is magnanimous enough to accommodate yet another coffee bar/pub. This time, five star style. Welcome to Barista Coffee at the Piano Lounge, Taj Coromandel.

A little coffee island in the lounge, with the aroma of freshly ground coffee wafting by and the pianist at his keys... The ingredients that make up the new coffee bar at the Taj. A convenient spot for those who are whiling away time, waiting for guests. A wait made worthwhile with a little coffee, short eats and teas.

Chennai is familiar with Barista already, so explanations on that front can be done away with. But Barista and Taj? How do they gel? Call it the marriage of speciality coffee and hospitality. Yes, Taj already has the 24-hour coffee shop which has the standard for five star hotels. But, the Barista bar is an effort to make coffee drinking a part of the lifestyle. As Mr. Rajeev Narain, general manager, Taj Coromandel says, ``We see great synergy in having the Barista Espresso Bar at the Piano Lounge. This provides our customers a delightful experience of different flavours of coffees of single origin along with traditional Taj hospitality.''

Talking of flavours, there are a number you can choose from. Beginning with the single shot of espresso, there are also the milky cappuccinos and cold coffee varieties. And of course, decaf. Do not despair if you are not a coffee drinker. There are enough teas to pick from, different flavours, iced teas and tea time nibbles.

Did you know that coffees of single origin like Jamaica Blue mountain, other exotic offerings like Brasil Santos, Cuba Caracolillo and the Colombia Supremo are currently available exclusively at the Barista Espresso Bars at the Taj Chain of hotels? Well, they are, according to Mr. Sameer Vyas, head of marketing, Barista Coffee. Two Baristas - expertly trained coffee makers - will be present at the bar to preserve the right taste.

The Piano Lounge was inaugurated in the city on Wednesday with Barista's Coffee Specialist Ruhi Singh, conducting a coffee appreciation session, sharing the subtle nuances of the gourmet coffee experience with coffee addicts of Chennai.
