TMMK men take out procession

CUDDALORE, DEC. 6. Hundreds of volunteers of the Tamizhaga Muslim Muneetra Kazhagam today took out a procession in Cuddalore and Villupuram on the occasion of the nineth anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

The volunteers, who included women in good strength, came by vans from various parts of the districts.

The procession was started from the Beach Road and reached to the Head Post Office here where the members staged a dharna for about an hour protesting the demolition of the Masjid.

Addressing the volunteers, Mr. S.M. Bakker, State treasurer of the TMMK, said the BJP-led Government at the Centre was a ``promoter of fanaticism and communalism''. In Villupuram, Mr. Hyder Ali, State General Secretary, led the processionists who walked down through the thoroughfares from the Railway Junction.

Peaceful in Kancheepuram

A procession taken out by the Tamizhaga Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam in Kancheepuram today passed off peacefully.

More than 600 members, including 50 women, took part.

Meanwhile the police made elaborate arrangements for the Friday bandh called by DMK and the left parties against the price hike of essential commodities.

The police here said that under an ADSP, five DSPs, 21 inspectors, 60 sub-inspectors, 800 policemen, 50 TSP personnel and 150 Home Guards men would be involved in security arrangements.

As many as 130 pickets had been deployed in sensitive places, the police said, adding that adequate arrangements had been taken to ensure that normal life is not disrupted.
