The World Bank was not just a financial institution but a ``knowledge bank'', and through the kiosk, expert studies on various issue of social and economic importance would be made available to the people. The bank was implementing many projects in Karnataka in collaboration with the State Government, and information on them would also be made available, Mr. Lal added.

Inaugurating the kiosk, Mr. Sanjoy Dasgupta, International Coordinator, Information Technology for Development, Action Aid, and former IT Secretary to the State Government, said that the kiosk would make available information off the shelf and through the Internet. It was user-friendly, and covered major aspects in the area of development, he added.

New premises: Mr. I.H. Jagirdar, Manager, British Library, Bangalore, announced that the library would be shifting to new premises in a few months. The new library would be a multi-media centre where the print collection would be supplemented by CDs and online facility. A children's section would also be introduced, he said.

The British Council, which was also planning a ``science festival'' some time early next year, would bring together experts in the field from both India and Britain.
