Vacate premises, Windsor Manor hotel told
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, DEC. 6. The State Wakf Board has decided to take immediate action under the Karnataka Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act against Windsor Manor hotel here, as the lease of the wakf land on which the hotel stands is ``null and void'', according to the Wakfs Minister, Mr. A.H. Hindasgeri.
He told presspersons here on Thursday that the hotel management had been issued notice on November 19 to vacate the premises within a week. Representatives of the management had not appeared before the board to reply to the notice, he said.
Mr. Hindasgeri said the Aga Ali Askar wakf property of 1.65 lakh sq.ft. was given to Monarch Corporation on a 30-year lease on October 15, 1973, for a monthly payment of Rs. 1,500. Within a year, it was assigned to Vishwavarma Hotels, and the lease period extended to 50 years without prior sanction of the Wakf Board, he added.
He said that in September 1974, the Wakf Board had declared the lease ``null and void'', as no lease exceeding three years could be given without its prior sanction.
In 1981, the board issued a notice Monarch Corporation and Vishwavarma Hotels to show cause why the lease should not be revoked. But, the latter, sublet the premises to the ITC group's Windsor Manor Hotel in September 1982, Mr. Hindasgeri said.
The minister said there was no impediment to the eviction of the occupant. To a petition against the board's decision, the High Court had asked the party to approach the civil court, and there was no suit pending before the civil court, he added.
