Harshad bail plea rejected

MUMBAI, DEC. 7. A special court today rejected the bail pleas of Harshad Mehta and his brothers Ashwin and Sudhir and remanded them to judicial custody till December 21 in connection with the CBI charge that they fraudulently and clandestinely sold over 27 Lakh shares of 90 companies held by them in the open market in 1992.

The special court judge, Mr. S.H. Kapadia, turned down an appeal by the defence advocates that the accused, arrested last month, should be set at liberty.

One bail application was moved on behalf of Harshad and Sudhir, while a separate bail plea on medical grounds was submitted for Ashwin who has been admitted to the J.J. Hospital here for cardiac treatment. - UNI
