Benazir's visit
Sir, - It is surprising to note the lapse on the part of the media in sparing Ms. Benazir Bhutto questions on Indo-Pak relations when she visited India last week. The red carpet laid out for her by the Government is also surprising!
Ms. Bhutto took undue advantage of her visit on three counts: one, that she was able to mount an attack on Gen. Musharraf; two, she could canvass for restoration of democracy in Pakistan; and three, her statements on the Kashmir issue were a ploy to gain some political mileage in Pakistan. She stressed the importance of the Shimla Agreement, but at the same time is opposed to LoC as the international border; she supported the `right to self-determination' for the Kashmiris and the U.N. resolutions. Did Mr. Vajpayee and Mr. Advani seek her views on cross-border terrorism? I wonder if Mr. Vajpayee invited her to counter the cross-border rebuff he has been getting from Gen. Musharraf.
