Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Par excellence

Sir, - Mukund Padmanabhan's article on George Harrison (Magazine section, Dec. 9) is an excellent commentary that puts into perspective the contribution of Harrison and the Beatles to rock `n' roll music. But when he says that the Beatles ``also created a sound'', I must disagree as this is an understatement. The Beatles hadcreated a range of new sounds that catapulted them to popularity and made them the foremost band of the 20th century. The melodic and harmonic brilliance of their music cannot be understated as this brought lustre to their work and propelled unparalleled interest in their music.

John Daniel,

Chennai
