Milder POTO

NEW DELHI, DEC. 10. The Government today finalised a milder Prevention of Terrorism Bill limiting its operation to three years from five years, dropping the clause objected to by journalists and making forefeiture of property a part of the judicial process.

The Bill, likely to be introduced in Parliament on Tuesday, dropped Section 3(8) of the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO).

Section 1 (6) of the new bill says the Act shall be deemed to have come into force from October 24, 2001 and would remain in operation for a period of three years. As per the earlier provision, the law was to have remained in force for five years. - PTI
