PANAJI, DEC. 16. The Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mr. Sripad Naik, was today roughed up by two motorcyclists here after his car hit a motorcycle while taking a turn near his old Goa house. He suffered bruises on his face and was hospitalised.

Mr. Naik first had a verbal duel with the two. One motorcyclist tried to pull the Minister's wife out of the car. Mr. Naik's personal security officer intervened but as the duo did not relent, he fired from his service revolver injuring one motorcyclist and a passerby.

Mr. Naik and the two others were admitted to the Goa Medical College Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.
