Need for cooperation
Sir, - Your Editorial `Ugly terror strikes again' (Dec 14): it is true that casualty number wise, the attack on Parliament House may not be considerable, compared with the early acts. But it is the choice of the place that assumes significance as it points to the listlessness shown to the democratic symbol of India. The laudable efforts of the security staff helped reduce the number of casualties.
Had the terrorists entered the House, perhaps things would have been different. But the simple doubt remains in one's mind as to how the car carrying the militants could pass through the gates. The method adopted by the militants in the recent attack on the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly should have prompted the Centre to tighten security at Parliament. In this case, there were reports that the Government had prior information.

Sir, - Your Editorial portrays the anxiety, relief, anger and anguish of the entire nation. This is the time the country should join hands and support the Government in the fight against terrorism. Leaders of the past, be it in the Congress or the Left or in the erstwhile Janata Party worked hand in hand at times of crisis, like the India-China war. They knew what the real national issues were. Any omissions and commissions by the ruling party were discussed and analysed in Parliament at a later time. The current political leadership is totally devoid of such national character and they try to gain advantage with scant respect for the nation. The public must reject the parties who do not exhibit such patriotic considerations. Even in corporategovernance, it is emphasised that the organisation's goals, group (department's) goals and the individual's goals need to be aligned for the growth of all three entities.
