Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Of parties and Iftars

Sir, - I am a firm believer in Marxian Socialism, leaders of which of yore taught us, among other things, that religion is sweetmeat wrapped in tinsel at the heart of which there is deadly poison; and so all communists should be atheists, i.e., enemies to religion. But now I am unable to comprehend as to why Mr. Harikishan Singh Surjeet and Mr. Somnath Chatterjee are not only participating in Iftar parties thrown by leaders of bourgeois parties but are also themselves holding them with eclat.

Deterioration definitely set into the socialist movement in tune with Hegelian dialectics, thesis, anti-thesis and synthesis. But this sort of an about-turn was unheard of even in the communist movement in India. Will anyone explain their stand vis-a-vis Iftar flirtations?

B.S. Rao,

Ongole, A.P.
