Thackeray backs move to snap links with Pak.

MUMBAI, DEC. 22. In probably the first-ever public endorsement of the BJP-led NDA Government's Pakistan policy, the Shiv Sena supremo, Mr. Bal Thackeray, today strongly backed the Centre's move to snap rail and road links with the neighbouring nation.

``The Government has taken a step in the right direction'', Mr. Thackeray said in the party mouth-piece, Saamna referring to the Union Government's move to snap the Samjhauta Express rail link and the Lahore-Delhi bus service between the two countries from January one.

The Sena chief said ``India can never have amicable relations with its neighbour because Pakistan has never considered India as its friend.''

He came down heavily on the U.S., the U.K., and China for their support to Pakistan. ``But this is our internal matter and what we do is more important than anybody else's support at this juncture'', he added.

``Did the U.S. seek any country's permission before attacking Iraq'', Mr. Thackeray asked and ridiculed America saying it did not have proof of Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden's involvement in the September 11 attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center.
