Enqvist, Rusedki advance

ADELAIDE, DEC. 31. Former Australian Open finalist Thomas Enqvist and big-serving Briton Greg Rusedki both registered comfortable straight set wins on the opening day of the Australian men's Hardcourt championship on Monday.

The two top seeds, Briton Tim Henman and American Pete Sampras, play their opening matches on Tuesday.

The results: Thomas Enqvist bt Marcelo Rios 6-0, 6-3; Greg Rusedki bt Jacobo Diaz 6-3, 7-6; Ivan Ljubicic bt Michael Russell 7-6, 7-6; Alberto Martin bt Andreas Vinciguerra 6-3, 6-4.
