Nagarkot retreat for SAARC leaders

KATHMANDU, JAN. 1. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, and the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, along with other SAARC leaders will fly to the sylvan surroundings of Nagarkot hill resort, 40 km east of Kathmandu, for the one-day retreat on January 5.

All the leaders will stay at Hotel Club Himalaya located in the foothills of the famous tourist spot at an altitude of over 7000 feet. If the weather remains clear in the morning, they will be able to see the Everest peak as also witness the breath-taking sunset on the picturesque Himalayan ranges.

Nepali cultural programmes including folk dances have been organised for the leaders who will stay overnight before returning to Kathmandu.

There is no official word from either the Indian or Pakistani sides whether Mr. Vajpayee and Gen. Musharraf would use the occasion to break the ice and have a formal interaction.
