11 Pakistan soldiers killed

JAMMU, JAN. 1. At least 11 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 17 of their bunkers destroyed in retaliatory mortar shelling and firing by Indian troops on the Pakistani formation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu-Poonch sector, defence sources said here today. Two Indian soldiers were killed and three injured and two Indian posts suffered damage in the exchange of fire since last night.

Pakistani troops shelled Indian positions using 122 mm mortar and rockets in Palnoia, Janguard, Kalal and Lam. Indian troops fired rockets, mortar bombs and grenades.

10 killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, JAN. 1. Eight militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and two Army personnel were killed as militants ambushed an Army vehicle, and clashed with security search parties at three places in the Kashmir valley today, official sources said.

Two jawans were killed, and five others injured when a group of militants ambushed their vehicle at Zabdaji in Kupwara district today, the sources said.

The troops fired back in retaliation. However,the militants managed to escape, the sources said, adding a hunt has been launched to nab them. - PTI
