`E-mail threat to Digvijay a New Year prank'
By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, JAN. 2. A preliminary probe by the CID into an e-mail message threatening to blow up the official residence of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Digvijay Singh, and the State Secretariat, in Bhopal by human bombs has revealed that ``it was a mischief committed by some pranksters seeking fun on New Year's Eve''.

The e-mail message, which was received by the Secretary to the Chief Minister in the past week-end, was immediately handed over to the Crime Branch of the CID for investigation. Meanwhile, a case under Section 507 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the unknown culprits.

What followed was a comprehensive exercise by the CID to trace the origin of the e-mail by tracking the Internet protocol address and detailed investigations at the level of the BSNL _ the Internet service provider.

In the process, it was not difficult for the CBI sleuths to track the telephone installed at the Shivam Computer Centre here that had been used for sending the e-mail.

The police have rounded up two youngsters said to have been involved in the case and are interrogating a few others.
