Lashkar threat to U.P. leaders

LUCKNOW, JAN. 3. Pakistan-based terrorist outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba, has threatened to kill the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Rajnath Singh, the Samajwadi Party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and the BSP leader, Mayawati, blow up the Taj Mahal and attack the makeshift Ram temple at Ayodhya, prompting the authorities to tighten security around them.

The Principal Secretary (Home), Naresh Dayal, told reporters that the threat was e-mailed to Mr. Rajnath Singh.

In Karachi, the outfit denied reports that it had threatened to blow up the Taj Mahal. ``This is absolutely a concocted story. The outfit has not sent an e-mail or issued such a statement,`` its spokesman, Abdullah Sayyaf, said.
