`Use farm subsidies for technology transfer'
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 3. An expert committee on agriculture and allied sectors has called for use of farm subsidies for technology transfer and development of farm resources.

It has also expressed concern over the decreasing public investments in agriculture and static plan allocations to the sector which, it says, is likely to hinder a higher farm growth rate exceeding four per cent during the 10th Five Year Plan.

The M.S. Swaminathan Committee, headed by agriculture- scientist, M.S. Swaminathan, on agriculture and allied sectors for the Tenth Plan which presented its report today to the Government said some of the subsidies like free electricity for groundwater use and canal irrigation had adversely affected natural resources and financial health of States.
