New Year resolutions
By Our Sports Reporter
CHENNAI, JAN. 3. The best way to start a New Year, as the popular opinion goes, is not to make any resolutions!.
In today's rag-tag world, it is as much difficult to make as to break them. In tennis parlance, a player who does not have any resolutions can be safely be labelled as `different'. It is very important to have a resolution or a goal for a player as it enables him set targets. Year after year, he sets himself new targets and goes after them with single mindedness.
Resolutions brings with them a commitment, and importantly a sense of responsibility to fulfil. Whether we have set any promises for 2002 or not, tennis players - current and former - have set themselves some:
Leander Paes: I have been trying to finish building my parent's house, so this year, I am determined to finish building it.
Mahesh Bhupathi: I want to be world No. 1 again in doubles.
Vijay Amritraj: Same as last year, to be the best I can be, especially towards my kids.
Anand Amritraj: To get my waist measurement down to below 33 inches.
Guillermo Canas: My wishes go out to all in my family and friends in Argentina, and to all the people there.
Byron Black: I want to give up drinking tea, because I drink too much of it, and it makes me really hyper, so I want to give it up.
Fredrico Luzzi: I want to try and not have a girlfriend, a real girlfriend, for the whole year.
Andrei Staliarov: To be with my girlfriend for the whole year. No marriage this year, but I want to be with her.
Paradorn Srichaphan: I want to break into the top 100 again in the rankings.
Mose Navarra: I want to be in top 100 again.
