Pak. deports Taliban envoy

ISLAMABAD, JAN. 5. Pakistan has deported the former Taliban envoy to Islamabad, Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, to Afghanistan after rejecting his representation for temporary political asylum.

The Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson, Aziz Ahmed Khan, declined to go into the details of the reasons which prompted the decision.

Mr. Zaeef was picked up from his residence on Thursday on charges of ``overstaying.'' The Foreign Office had stated that the former envoy would be given ``reasonable time''.
