Sania Mirza advances
NEW DELHI, JAN. 5. Top-seeded Sania Mirza defeated Daniella Dominikovic of Australia 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the ITF junior Victorian Championship in Australia.
Sania will meet the 16th-seeded Diana Julianto of Indonesia in the second round. The 13th-seeded Megha Vakharia also made it to the pre-quarterfinals with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Natasha Kersten of Australia. The left-handed Megha will meet the fourth-seeded Nina Bratchikova of Russia.
In doubles also, only Sania Mirza and Megha Vakharia stayed in the tournament, albeit with different partners.
Rohan Gajjar was able to win a round in the boys section in a draw of 64, but crashed out to a 2-6, 1-6 defeat at the hands of the fourth-seeded Clement Morel of France. The other Indian boys, Amanjot Singh, Rishi Behl and Sujay V. Reddy lost in the first round.
