Dialogue is right
Sir, - Apropos your editorial, `Resume the dialogue' (Jan. 7), may I say that you have quite correctly said that India and Pakistan should move towards a purposive resumption of talks. True, we are shocked at the dastardly terrorist attacks, and as a retaliatory step, we had taken some harsh diplomatic steps. But this by itself cannot be any solution. They are only emotional outbursts taken on the spur of the moment. Further action has to be taken, and the initiative should come from our side only in our own interests and should not be left to the military dictator of a country where not the people but religious fundamentalists and fanatics dominate.
To initiate the dialogue process does not mean weakness on our part, as a war with Pakistan despite global moral backing is unthinkable and may ruin everything we have achieved all along. Let us try to convince Pakistan to support peaceful means to resolve disputes.
