Opinion - Letters to the Editor

The real benefits

Sir, - One positive outcome of the recent SAARC summit is the MFN status the member-nations have accorded to each other. I, as a Pakistani, can see the benefits for the Pakistani economy and the same is true for the Indian economy.

For a long time we imported wheat from the U.S., whereas we could have got it from India at a lesser price. It would also put pressure on some industries - pharmaceutical, for example - in Pakistan to be more efficient and cease and desist from extorting the Pakistanis. I think trade can go a long way in normalising the relations between the two countries.

Amir Ishaque,

Toronto, Canada
