Russia, China call for talks
By Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW, JAN. 7. Russia and China have voiced grave concern over the flare-up of tension between India and Pakistan and called on the two countries to resolve the crisis through diplomatic efforts.

``Russia and the People's Republic of China express serious concern over the buildup of tension between India and Pakistan,'' the Russian Foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov, and his Chinese counterpart, Tang Jiaxuan, said in a joint statement quoted by Russian news agencies said. The two Ministers met on the sidelines of the first Foreign Minister meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing today.

Voicing indignation at the December 13 attack on the Indian Parliament building, Russia and China said by acting with restraint, India and Pakistan would avoid heightening tension and serve the fundamental interests of both nations.
