I-T deadline extended

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 8. The Finance Ministry today extended the last day for filing income tax returns under the `one-of-six' scheme to March 31, 2002, from the previous last date of November 30, 2001.

No penalty will be imposed if the returns are filed by the new date as the Income-Tax Act provides for a penalty of Rs. 5,000 for failure to file returns on time.
