SYDNEY, JAN. 11. Defending champion Martina Hingis scored the 500th professional victory of her career on Friday and moved to within one win of a third Sydney international title in six years. The former world No. 1 downed Kim Clijsters of Belgium 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to advance to a final meeting on Saturday with Meghann Shaughnessy.

Unseeded Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela, who was banned for three months last year after testing positive to steroids, advanced to the men's final.

The results (semifinals): Men: Juan Ignacio Chela bt Max Mirnyi 6-4, 6-4; Roger Federer bt Andy Roddick 7-6 (3), 6-4.

Women: Martina Hingis bt Kim Clijsters 7-5, 4- 6, 6-2; Meghann Shaughnessy bt Serena Williams 5-4, retired.
