Russia will judge Pak. by its actions

MOSCOW, JAN. 12. Russia has welcomed the ``positive tone'' of a landmark speech against terrorism delivered by the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, today but said it would judge Islamabad on its actions.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it noted ``the positive tone of President Musharraf's declared intention to put an end to the activity of extremist organisations operating from territory under Pakistani control.'' But it added pointedly that Russia would judge Pakistan on ``concrete steps by Islamabad to halt all terrorist actions.'' ``Only when in our view the real preconditions are in place for a genuine improvement of the situation in South Asia will the way open for relations to be restored between India and Pakistan,'' the Foreign Ministry added. _ AFP
