The triumphant Kerala team, the overall champions of the National inter-state junior athletics meet which concluded in Chennai on Sunday.

CHENNAI, JAN, 13. Amidst a carnival atmosphere, the five-day National inter-state junior athletics meet concluded at the JN Stadium with Kerala asserting its hegemony for the fifth time in a row, underlining the range and depth of the talent available in the State, with a tally of 378 points, followed by Tamil Nadu at 347.5.

In retaining the team championship won amidst a touch of controversy last time at Bangalore, the Kerala competitors confirmed yet again why they are in the forefront of competitive athletics in the country.

Uttar Pradesh claimed the team championship for boys with an aggregate of 171.5 points, while Kerala, expectedly, took the top spot among the states for the girls category totalling a whopping 259 points.

Uttar Pradesh's Suman Devi returned a creditable performance in javelin throw (under 20) with a splendid effort of 48.88m, improving her previous best by 3.89m set at Bangalore last year.
