BAC sweeps overall title

MANDYA, JAN. 13. The Basavangudi Aquatic Centre, the power house in State and Indian aquatics, swept the overall title with an imposing tally of 1783 points in the Karnataka short coursse swimming championship which concluded at the PET pool here on Sunday.
BAC swimmers also grabbed honours in the individual sweepstakes. The only title that escaped BAC's grasp was the Group IV girls individual title won by P.B. Mahalakshmi of the KC Reddy Swim Centre, Bangalore, with 43 points. The individual titles won by BAC swimmers were, in boys: N.A. Krishna (Group I, 89 points); M.N. Siddarth (Group II, 99); Bharat Kumar (Group III, 59) and N.A. Sandeep (Group IV, 43) and in girls: S. Veena (Group I, 88); P. Praditha (Group II, 80) and V. Sivaranjani (Group III, 77).
Rising star Sivaranjani set two more meet records in Group III taking her individual mark to 10. She also missed one when she was a shade outside her own meet record in the 50m backstroke (34.04s) to finish with a time of 34.29.
The 50m freestyle event in boys Group I saw a dead heat finish with Mysore lad Gautham Prasad (MDSA) tying with Savya Sachi (BC) at 27.04s. Swathi Shukla of PMSC stole the thunder on the final day in Group I winning the 25m, 50m freestyle events and the 50m backstroke events.
Overall 52 individual records were set in the three- day meet which augurs well for the State aquatics. Mr. Siddiah, Commissioner of the State Youth Services and Sports, presided and gave away the prizes.

Group II: 200m breaststroke: M.N. Siddarth (BAC, 2:45.70); 50m breaststroke: Madhukumar (KCR, 34.16, NMR); 50m butterfly: M.N. Siddarth (BAC, 28.81, NMR); 25m freestyle: M.N. Siddarth (BAC, 12.39, NMR); 4x50m freestyle relay: BAC (1:55.76, NMR).
Group III: 50m backstroke: Prasanna Kumar (BAC, 34.35); 100m butterfly: Tejas Gowda (BAC, 1:09.02); 25m freestyle: G. Karthik (PMSC, 12.59).
Group IV: 200m individual medley: N.A. Sandeep (BAC, 2:46.30, NMR); 50m butterfly: N.A. Sandeep (BAC, 34.26); 4x25m medley relay: KCR (1:12.62).
Girls: Group I: 200m individual medley: S. Veena (BAC, 2:44.69, NMR); 50m freestyle: Swathi Shukla (PMSC, 30.96); 50m backstroke: Swathi Shukla (PMSC, 35.06, NMR); 25m freestyle: Swathi Shukla (PMSC, 14.15, NMR).
Group II: 200m breaststroke: A. Aparna (BAC, 3:19.90); 50m breaststroke: P. Praditha (BAC, 41.83, NMR); 50m butterfly: A. Aparna (BAC, 35.31); 25m freestyle: P. Praditha (BAC, 14.05).
Group III: 50m breaststroke: V. Sivaranjani (BAC, 34.29); 100m butterfly: V. Sivaranjani (BAC, 1:07.13 NMR); 25m freestyle: V. Sivaranjani (BAC, 13.36, NMR).
