The former Manipur Chief Minister, Radha Binod Koijam, said here that the law and order situation in the State was `delicate' and warned that if steps were not taken to correct the situation, insurgents could call the shots during the Assembly polls scheduled for February 14 and 21.
Mr. Koijam, who heads the Samata Party in the State, told a news conference that his house in Imphal was attacked by unidentified gunmen last evening and that a bullet had pierced through the steel gate. He said a grenade was also found in the compound, according to reports reaching him here.
The Samata Party had drawn the attention of the State Electoral Officer and the State Chief Secretary on its fears, he said, adding that the outfit would also meet the Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Otherwise, only those who has support of insurgents will be able to contest ... democratic process will be derailed,'' Mr. Koijam said.
