India, China sign MoU on S&T
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 15. Collaboration between India and China in the field of science and technology is set to enter a new phase with the signing of two MoUs here on Monday, as part of the visit here by the Chinese premier, Zhu Rongji.

Under the first agreement signed between the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a joint working group is to be set up to formulate and monitor joint projects and programmes.

Under the second accord signed between the DST and China's State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs, a new mechanism is to be set up for a more effective exchange of S&T personnel. A database of the experts would be created and young scientists and researchers would be facilitated to work in advanced facilities available in each other's country.

Till now, scientific cooperation between the two countries was confined to exchange of visits by scientists and that too in certain specific areas.
