Judicial custody of Afroz extended

MUMBAI, JAN. 15. A city court today extended till January 29, the judicial custody of Mohammed Afroz Abdul Razak - suspected member of the terrorist outfit, Al-Qaeda - accused of planning to blow up targets in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Afroz was produced amid tight security before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, V.P. Taware, who extended his remand. The accused did not plead for bail and also preferred not to engage any lawyer.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police chief, Mahesh Narayan Singh, today said the city police had gathered solid evidence against Afroz.

``The investigations are still in progress,'' Mr. Singh told the annual press conference at the Police Club here.
