Assam enters last eight
SHILLONG, JAN. 15. A spirited Assam entered the quarterfinals of the 24th sub-junior National football championship for the Justice Iqbal Hussain Trophy, humiliating Haryana 5-0 at the Polo Ground here. Rajib Das (2nd minute), Pabitra Konwar (19th), Gautom Diamary (28th), Robojit Jigdung (69th) and Kubal Rabha (79th) were the goal scorers.
In another match, Punjab defeated Karnataka 4-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. For Punjab, Manjit Singh (2nd & 77th), Rohit (32nd) and Sandeep Singh (56th) were the goal scorers. For Karnataka, Raju managed to score in the 63rd minute of the match.
In the third match, Uttar Pradesh routed Gujarat 3-0. Two goals were netted in by Jeetendra Kumar in the 40th and 53rd minutes of play while Mohamad Arif scored in the 59th minute.
In the fourth match, Chandigarh outplayed Rajasthan 3- 0. Two goals for Chandigarh were scored by Inderpreet Singh (13th and 17th), while the third was by Ajoy Kumar in the 56th minute.
Tomorrow's matches: Maharashtra vs Sikkim, Pondicherry vs Goa, Himachal Pradesh vs Manipur.
