Hong Kong jockey in the dock on cocaine count
BANGALORE, JAN. 15. The Stewards of the Hong Kong Jockey Club today suspended jockey A. Starke up to July 1, 2002 after they found him guilty of breach of club rules in that at the Sha Tin meeting on December 16 prior to commencing his riding engagements he had provided a sample of his urine which upon analysis contained Benzoylecgonine, a major metabolite of cocaine.
The ban on the jockey in relation to riding on the track or in trials will continue until such time as he is able to provide a urine sample free of any prohibited substances or its metabolites.
HKJC Senior Racing Chemist Dr T. S. M. Wan reported on Dec. 18, 2001, that Starke's urine sample he analysed contained Benzoylecgonine. The reserve portion of the sample was analysed at the Racing Analytical Services in Melbourne by Dr John H. Vine, who confirmed the presence of the cocaine metabolite.
